The new Realme GT arrives in Spain with very striking technical characteristics, and with a marketing campaign to match; The Chinese manufacturer claims that this is a “Flagship killer”, killer of the best mobiles on the market, the top of the range of the best brands.
Of course, Realme is not the first to say something similar. Nor is it the first to start a very flashy marketing campaign, with Japanese swords and nods to Kill Bill included. But this release is different, one with high expectations and hopes. One that, if you are looking for a new mobile, you should not miss out on anything in the world.
The Realme GT has a starting price of 449 euros , but that does not tell us anything. If the second piece of information we give is that it uses a Snapdragon 888 processor, things change, a lot. This is the cheapest mobile with the most powerful Qualcomm processor on the market, period. That alone should be reason enough to keep reading.
This is the Realme GT
With just three years of life, Realme is one of the youngest brands present in the Spanish market, and even so, last year it managed to reach the seventh position in the global sales ranking. His bet is on low-cost Android smartphones, with very affordable models that include everything that the average user could want.
With a look at the Realme range, we find that most models are around the 200 euro line, the psychological barrier for many buyers. The Realme GT is not the first high-end mobile launched by this company, but it is the first to combine that concept with its affordable philosophy.
Realme GT
We are facing a mobile that uses very high-end components with a decent manufacturing quality and without notable sacrifices. At first glance it already stands out from the rest, especially if we choose the yellow version; This one uses a combination of vegan leather with a plastic strip, not only creating a very striking effect, but also helping a lot in the grip. You will not need to buy a separate case to prevent the phone from shooting out when you pick it up with sweaty hands.
Build quality is below its price tag, and it’s easy to see that this is where the cutbacks have been concentrated . The use of vegan leather is appreciated, but it is the only detail worthy of attention in what is, on the other hand, a design that is easily forgotten, with materials dominated by plastic despite the attempt to look like metal with the glossy finish. It is also not particularly thin or light, although this does not affect daily use too much.
Good screen
In the hand, the Realme GT feels very good, light and easy to use thanks to its 6.43-inch screen with Super AMOLED technology ; but above all, it is noticeable very fast thanks to the refresh rate of 120 Hz, which makes the menus move in a fluid and smooth way. The maximum brightness of 1,000 nits guarantees good use even outdoors, and the contrast, more than sufficient.
Realme GT
The treatment of colors, on the other hand, could be better; the mobile comes by default in “Vivid” mode, which covers the DCI-P3 color gamut, and can be too unbalanced if you are looking for natural colors. In particular, the red loses a lot in this mode, something that is not so noticeable in the “Soft” mode, which covers the sRGB gamut. The resolution is also sufficient, but only that; perhaps a little more sharpness is missing.
In multimedia content such as Netflix or YouTube, this screen meets all expectations, although it does not particularly stand out in any respect. On the other hand, when we play is where the advantages of the AMOLED screens and 120 Hz are really noticed, if the title is compatible. It also helps a lot that the screen is flat, and does not have the curvature that we see in some high-end mobiles.
Power to spare
Where the Realme GT really shows what it is capable of is in raw power, thanks to the aforementioned Snapdragon 888 that until now we had only found in the most expensive phones on the market.
This processor does not disappoint, with great performance in all tasks; GeekBench tests, 1143 on one core and 3498 on multicore, make it clear from the beginning that this is a powerful mobile.
All apps benefit from this superior power , from web browsers with many open tabs to more advanced and demanding programs such as office automation programs. Multitasking is also good enough, although the Realme GT unit that we have been able to test has ‘only’ 8 GB of RAM; there is another version with 12 GB, but unless you are one of those users who ask absolutely everything from their phone, it probably will not be worth it.
Realme GT gives the stature in video games
In video games is where the advantages of such power are best noticed. Games like Call of Duty are doing very well, taking better advantage of the high refresh rate screen. At no time have we noticed jumps or drops in the rate of frames per second, and that speaks very well of this mobile. The most demanding titles like Genshin Impact work like a charm and the experience is among the best in the mobile sector.
The Realme GT includes tools to improve games
To aid this experience, Realme includes a “Games Space”, an application that runs on top of games to give us quick access to exclusive features. Among the options we have is to vary the performance mode , if we need more “juice” in games with better graphics. We can also eliminate distractions, whether they are notifications or even calls, and connect WhatsApp to continue talking with our friends.
Software: simple but with bloatware
This brings us to the perhaps less worked aspect of this mobile, the software. The Realme GT uses version 2.0 of the Realme customization layer, based on Android 11, and the experience does not differ much from this. There are only small details that indicate originality, especially when it comes to customization, but little else.
The experience with the Realme GT is very good
The Realme GT doesn’t offer a completely ‘stock’ experience, but it comes close. The biggest ‘annoyances’ in that sense are found in the pre-installed applications, as they tend to be in cheap mobiles. It is not clear if the global version of the Realme GT that will arrive in Spain will have as many pre-installed apps as the one we have tested, but at least we can uninstall them.
There could be tools like a “Phone Manager” with a cleaner included, and a couple of services that ask us to log in, but we can ignore all that and use whatever apps and services we want.
The camera you need, period
Being a good mobile is no longer enough in today’s market; to succeed, it must also be a good camera. The Realme GT follows current trends, including three sensors, although as is often the case in most cases, the usefulness of the two secondaries is debatable.
The cameras of the Realme GT only comply
Starting with the good, the 64 MP Sony main sensor does its job perfectly, with a correct level of detail, although perhaps with too strong shadows. The colors do not stand out but they do not bother either, with a neutrality in which only the greens show their presence.
Photographs with the Realme GT
We have two modes, one automatic and the other 64M; the latter gets less noise, but in return we lose details. On the other hand, the zoom is really bad, and we will only get images that appear to have passed through a “comic” filter; the hand of algorithms is clearly noticeable, and it is not subtle.
The second sensor is the ultrawide , or ultra-panoramic, 8 MP. The results we get are not bad, taking into account the limitations of the sensor, but an orange hue is striking in all our shots, compared to the main camera. Finally, we have a 2 MP macro sensor , and it is as useless as usual; the possible details that we could get are blurred with such a low image definition.
The Realme GT does its job as a personal camera, and little else. Of course, we have technologies such as night mode or portrait mode, but in no case can we say that it is the best. With the portrait mode and the selfie camera, for example, it is not uncommon to find the typical problem that our hair becomes a blur in some parts, due to the inability of the algorithms to differentiate it from the background.
The latest technology and a surprise
Although with the Realme camera it has fulfilled a Sufficient, we cannot say the same about the rest of the components. In connectivity, for example, the Realme GT will become the first 5G mobile for many people, offering heart- stopping speeds as long as we have the coverage of our operator.
The Realme GT comes with 65W fast charging
The speeds of the SuperDart fast charge are also outrageous, with a 65W charger included in the box; We have managed to fully charge the mobile in three quarters of an hour, but it is usable after just a few minutes. Ideal if we are in a hurry and we could not find an outlet nearby. In return, the charger is larger than usual, something to keep in mind if we are going to take it with us.
As incredible as it may sound, it is a 3.5mm jack on the Realme GT
Next to the USB-C charging port, we find a surprise: a 3.5 mm audio output , something unthinkable in a high-end mobile. It has probably been possible thanks to the greater thickness of this model, but you will not hear complaints from me: thanks to this we can connect headphones and enjoy the Dolby Atmos sound in a more appropriate way than with the included speakers.
As for security, the Realme GT includes an under-screen fingerprint reader. It is very fast, unlocking the mobile in an instant and has not given us any problem to detect our finger.
Nothing better at this price
The Realme GT is not the best mobile on the market, but it is the one you should buy. This paradox is explained by a key factor, the price of 449 euros. There is simply no mobile equivalent to the Realme GT for the same price; all easily exceed 500 euros.
Power is its strong point , with a Snapdragon 888 that sweeps away all the alternatives that cost the same. The Realme GT is a mobile that will continue to wage war for years, and although it remains to be seen how the update policy will be, that there is already a beta of the future Android 12 gives us reason for optimism.
The adoption of new technologies such as fast charging and 5G guarantee a bright future. The screen is also at a good level, with the advantages of AMOLEDs and a high refresh rate.
This mobile does not have many negative points; in fact, your biggest problem is that you are not risking enough to fall into these failures. Sections such as the camera, the thickness or the materials used are mediocre at best , but in no case decidedly bad. And they are sacrifices that many users will not even notice.
The Realme GT is a powerful weapon in the right hands
They no longer make mobiles like this. The Realme GT has the potential to change the market , just as its ‘sister’ brands OnePlus and Oppo once did. And the best thing is that if 449 euros seems cheap, you can still get it by paying less.
As an introductory offer, the Realme GT is available from today with a special price of 369 euros on AliExpress , in its version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which will be enough for most. If we want the 12 GB and 256 GB version, we can find it for 499 euros on Amazon and the Realme page .
For those prices, this is a practically obligatory purchase if we are looking for a new and powerful mobile, and probably the best bargain of the year.
