The Innovative Aydın Spinal Surgery Technique

The Innovative Aydın Spinal Surgery Technique, pioneered by Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın, marks a notable leap forward in the realm of spinal surgery. It delivers precise interventions for spinal stenosis and spinal cord compression that avoid the use of metals, thereby significantly reducing the impact on surrounding tissues. The technique offers same-day treatments for disc herniations, non-invasive options for cervical disc herniation, and effective strategies for addressing spinal canal stenosis resulting from cervical calcification.

Utilizing a unilateral approach to achieve bilateral decompression in spinal stenosis, Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın has successfully implemented this technique in over 4,000 instances over two decades. “Our goal is to preserve the natural structure and mobility of the spine while providing more room to squeezed spinal nerves,” he emphasizes. He points out the commonality of spinal stenosis among the elderly and the prevailing use of instrumented methods in surgery, which involve extensive, invasive procedures that prolong the recovery process. He advocates for shorter, less invasive surgical options for older patients to minimize postoperative complications, highlighting the importance of early mobilization after surgery.

“By using a unilateral approach, on the symptomatic side, we can decompress the spinal canal stenosis and clean disc herniations effectively, minimizing the risk of ‘Adjacent Segment Disease’ and ensuring a faster return to normal life for our patients.” Additionally, this method is adaptable for multi-level stenosis treatment through a single incision, without compromising the spine’s load-bearing function.

Developing a Natural Corridor on the Spinal Aspect

In treating spinal stenosis, Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın utilizes a novel technique that sidesteps the complications commonly associated with traditional screw and rod systems. While effective for traumatic fractures or spinal anomalies due to tumors, these conventional approaches can disrupt the spine’s natural biomechanics, leading to the need for further surgeries.

With a vast experience from conducting more than 10,000 surgeries, Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın’s approach involves crafting a natural corridor on one side of the spine to perform essential surgeries without sacrificing spinal stability. This method ensures the preservation of joint movement and mitigates the risk of adjacent segment disease, allowing for patient discharge within a day of the spinal surgery.

Facilitating Swift Rehabilitation Through Less Invasive Procedures

“The key to successful spinal surgery lies in respecting the integrity of the spine’s supporting structures,” Prof. Dr. Yunus Aydın states. By employing state-of-the-art surgical tools such as the high-speed drill and Kairison bone cutter, these surgeries can be conducted more efficiently, with reduced invasiveness and blood loss. Furthermore, by preserving the yellow ligament in microdiscectomy, the procedure minimizes tissue damage, thereby reducing the likelihood of nerve adhesions and the incidence of failed back surgery syndrome.

Patients benefiting from these advanced spinal surgeries can expect significantly reduced hospital stays, with many being discharged either on the day of the surgery or the following day. Nearly all patients are able to return to their normal activities within 15 days, showcasing the minimally invasive nature of these surgical practices.
