Being an Independent Music artist means more than carrying the burden of building an empire from the ground up.
To Johnny Nostra, building a music empire carries a duty to educate artists at each stage that is reached in the music business so that they may build their empire swift and safe. Focusing on contract splits with royalties, music distribution, tailored marketing tactics, and the law established by the highest courts in the United States, Johnny is changing the music game with artist education in the music industry and the law.
The love for music inspired Johnny to seek a degree in Law. “I’m a firm believer that knowledge is power, to use that power for a just cause was always my motivation to sit through 7 years of college. I never liked the school because I was forced to learn subjects that I knew I would never use in the real world. The law gives me the power to protect the ones I care about most.”
Recently hired as A&R at multi-platinum US-UK music production and management company, Underdog Music Group., Johnny brings creative and effective ways to maximize the potential of everyone he is working with especially when it comes to the rights of intellectual property and artist development.
Johnny: My journey is just beginning, and Underdog lets me fulfill my purpose of helping others reach their potential. I feel that every music artist deserves to be guided. In the end, art is the creation of the individual, and no two art forms are the same. In my opinion, it’s a great loss to hold back the steps you went through to develop a blueprint as an independent artist.
As a community of artists, we owe it to one another to guide and shape our own empire, creating connections of music with business-minded individuals.
This passion for law and music began with Johnny creating music when he was 16 years old. Johnny made beats in his bedroom and later finding his sound, in 2019, he released his debut album “Nostra,” a collection of symbolic melodies in the genres of Hip Hop and R&B.Johnny: I wanted the project to tell my story poetically. From the start, I was a poet and always wrote in my journal after school.
Nostra tells the story of balancing my “demons” to fully understand who I am in life, now, at my current stage. To excel in anything, I feel that you must admit who you are even if the truth is ugly at first. We all have our flaws, but it’s how we chose to deal with them that makes us a more evolved individuals.
