The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported that 80% of the work is progressing to enable and clear the roads and production roads of the Tierras Altas district, in the province of Chiriquí, which were affected after the passage of hurricane ETA.
In Bambito, Paso Ancho township, Tierras Altas district , the highway collapsed due to the overflow of the Chiriquí Viejo river. Currently, road rehabilitation work is 80% complete. In the area, the construction of a rocky-type protection wall was also carried out.
This week the first asphalt layer is expected to be thrown away, an important road that goes to Cerro Punta, a township of great national production, said Carlos Lezcano, administrator of the MOP headquarters in Tierras Altas.
“Thanks to the decision of the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo and the MOP, in 48 hours the highway could be enabled, since this area worried us about the production of the Highlands towards Panama City,” said Lezcano. In this area, the contractor company Bagatrac SA, executes the works; while in Renacimiento the work is carried out by the Ininco company.
The official indicated that there are also important advances in the rehabilitation of the production roads of the Tierras Altas district such as Alto Tribaldos, located in Bambito, Paso Ancho. In the Los Pozos sector , several critical points were also recorded. However, the MOP already has 80% progress on the roads for the production of coffee, milk, among others.
