The new Google search option allows you to disable the use of personal results in the Android app, as well as in the web version.
From the beginning, Google differed from other web search engines in offering closer and unique results for each user; And over time, it has been gaining more and more personal functions, but that is not to everyone’s liking. Many Internet users search the Internet precisely to find information beyond their ‘bubble’, but Google insists on presenting results that only have to do with our activity.
Now, we can change that. The Google app for Android has been updated with a new button that deactivates personal results , allowing us to obtain more generic ones that may be more useful.
Once we update the Android app with the Play Store, we just have to open it and click on our account icon and then on “Settings”; If we enter “Personal results”, we can activate or deactivate the function.
We can also access this configuration from the Google website, simply by entering this link .
Specifically, if we deactivate personal results, Google will no longer show us results based on information from our Google account ; for example, it won’t use Gmail to show when our next flight is, and it won’t use Maps to show us how to get home.
With the option disabled, Google will not use our search history to autocomplete what we are writing, something that can be useful to continue what we were doing, but which can be annoying if we wanted to do something else.
Finally, Google will not show recommendations based on our account activity ; for example, Discover stories we have read or recommendations of where to visit and where to eat.
Keep in mind that if we deactivate it, Discover will show popular publications but that will have nothing to do with our interests. That may be the main reason to activate personal results; If we activate them, these will now be displayed differently, making it clear that only we see them and they do not appear in the searches of other users.
In addition, if you deactivate this function, it does not mean that Google does not save your data , nor collect your information as usual; it is just that you will not use it for these purposes, but to display personalized advertising, for example. For that we have to use Google search controls and Google privacy controls.
