Smartphones have established themselves as a basic and fundamental piece of the day-to-day life of consumers. This growing weight in everyday life not only makes us always glued to a screen, but it has also promoted the use of certain services. Mobile applications are one of the favorite entry keys to more and more things, one also that is expected to grow significantly in the future.
AdColony estimates indicate the number of mobile application downloads will reach 250,000 million in 2025. Consumers download more applications and give them more use, even more value, as shown by other data in the study.
All this changes things for the very companies that need to reach consumers through these apps, those that operate in those environments that users want to consume in-app, but also for those that use the mobile environment as a platform for contact via marketing and publicity.
Spending on apps is going to double in five years
Mobile apps will become increasingly important in the lives of consumers, as evidenced by the fact that spending projections point in a bullish direction. By 2025, global consumer spending on apps is expected to reach $ 270 billion. This is a very high figure, but much more when compared to the data with which it was closed last year.
It is, according to AdColony figures, almost 2.5 times more than the amount in 2020, when consumers spent $ 111 billion on apps. The Apple universe will be the one that moves the most money. $ 185 billion will come from spending on the App Store, compared to $ 85,000 from Google Play.
The coronavirus crisis accelerated the use of mobile phones and increased the time we spend with these screens. It has also had an impact on spending. Growth in 2020 was 30% year-on-year, compared to 21% in 2019.
Europe will be the paradise of apps for the next five years
Usually, in this type of studies and projections there is some market that stands out as the one that will have the most optimistic growth forecasts. Likewise, that market is not usually the European one. And yet this time it is. Over the next five years, Europe is expected to be the market to which the most attention should be paid.
Its revenue growth will be higher than that of North America or Asia, even though the latter is the market in which downloads will grow the most and China is going to become the market with the most powerful app stores. The growth of spending on apps in Europe will be 23% (compared to 20% in Asia or 18% in North America), reaching 42 billion dollars in 2025.
The apps that will dominate spending say a lot about what consumers are interested in
And what will consumers spend that spending on and what will be the market niches that will dominate? The purchases they will make say a lot about how things are changing and what is expected of the future. Maybe a few years ago, spending went to games and leisure services. Now, consumers use their mobile as the epicenter of their life and invest in more land.
Business, education, medical and health & fitness apps were among those that grew the most during the spring of 2020, the height of the coronavirus crisis, they point out in the study. Although they then fell after that first moment, they will not disappear. Consumers will continue to access those services, as games maintain, on a stable basis over the next few months.
