The quantum startup QuEra Computing aims to improve the control and use of atomic-scale qubits , being the basic units of logic in quantum processors. This company uses a quantum architecture and laser techniques to organize and direct the unit of measurement in its 256-qubit system.
In this case, it is used for error correction , because the more control can be exercised over the qubits, they can be used for real computation, but how are the atoms of these particles that are composed of superconducting materials used?
QuEra’s processor traps arrays of neutral atoms in a small vacuum chamber , uses lasers to slow them down to virtual immobility in order to cool them down to a millionth of a Kelvin above absolute zero.
Two of the big players in computing are Google and IBM , however, QuEra may be a possible rival because its results are a thousand times colder compared to large technology companies . Google introduced its 53-qubit quantum processor in 2019, while IBM launched a 127-qubit recently.
What can this quantum computer be used for?
This technology will be useful for researchers trying to solve problems of practical interest that are related to the fields of medicine , finance , neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence .
On the other hand, Rakuten ( Japan’s e-commerce giant ) wants to use this quantum modeling to understand the optimal number of wireless antennas, so they will understand how radio signals travel and bounce for 4G and 5G mobile services .
