Sony has been forced to reduce its production of PlayStation 5 due to component limitations that is causing the shortage of chips. This company had predicted that it would manufacture more than 16 million consoles this year to try to reach the number of sales and begin to supply the productions of the next year.
According to a report released by Bloomberg, Sony has lowered that sales forecast to 15 million, which ends up hampering the goal of 14.8 million PS5 sales . Logistics problems have become more frequent due to parts shortages, and the news reports that component shipments often do not arrive on time.
This console became the Sony device that reached a level of ten million sales in June of this year, however, this rate has lagged behind its predecessor PlayStation 4 .
As you well know, the PS5 has been quite difficult to find in the market, considering that it has been difficult to distribute these units worldwide. On the other hand, the components that are in short supply are power management chips – the most essential for their manufacture – and it is unlikely that the manufacturing situation will normalize during 2022.
This frustration with the limited inventory of consoles is growing among game creators and gamers . The report communicates that Sony partners expect the shortage of supplies to continue until next year, also, for the next fiscal year they plan to reach a volume of 22.6 million sales.
Other companies are also suffering from this problem
Nintendo , its direct rival, has also had to cut its sales forecast for the whole year in relation to the manufacture of the Switch . Meanwhile, Valve Corp. had to delay the debut of its ‘Steam Deck’ handheld console due to the global supply chain problem.
