The National Police affirms that it wants to be at the European vanguard in terms of drones. With this idea in mind, this Tuesday a monster in terms of air vehicles was presented in the preparations for Expodrónica : it is called EH216 and it is based on an electric motor that has eight propellers and allows reaching a maximum speed of 130 kilometers per hour. , with a load capacity of 220 kilos.

They themselves refer to the ship as ‘megadron’ , and no wonder : this ‘flying patrol car’ with capacity for two people weighs 600 kilograms. Manufactured by the Chinese company EHang, the autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) EH216 already debuted in Seoul last year with an exhibition flight through the center of the city as part of the Open the Urban Sky event. A demonstration that had great repercussion because it was the first time that a ‘flying taxi’ without a driver circulated through the sky of such a populated city.

The Chinese firm EHang is one of the world leaders in the design and manufacture of drones and the first to be listed on the Nasdaq index in New York.

Spain has its own King Kong of drones, and it is not a prototype: it flies at 100km / h and lifts 80kg
Now this Chinese company has given the National Police a unit of the EH216 air taxi. With this vehicle, with capacity for two people , agents will have access to CBRN contaminated areas and air access to confined spaces.

The chief commissioner of the Air Resources Unit of the National Police affirms that as a result of the collaboration with EHang and the UPV “the necessary steps are being taken to determine the police uses and the methodology in the field of R + D + i, which allows to put this Autonomous Air Vehicle into flight ”.

“We consider that it will be very useful for emergencies and security, in missions such as: extinguishing fires , access to contaminated areas -Nuclear, Radiological, Bacteriological or Chemical risk-, landing in confined areas , transport of material, and all those services police forces that may require the use of a suitable sensor. The use of this technology positions the National Police of Spain in the national and international vanguard in the Police Use of this type of Aircraft ”.

“ We are negotiating with the State Aviation Safety Agency in order to obtain the flight permit and use it as soon as possible . We are training a number of police officers to learn to pilot the drone remotely and we have technical support from the Polytechnic University of Valencia ”, assured the Chief Inspector of Air Resources Service, Juan Dueñas, at the Cuatro Vientos aerodrome , during the presentation of the Expodrónica fair.

Drones can land automatically, even on cables, and manipulate with robotic arms.

At the moment, the Police are already conducting tests on the Chinese aircraft in the Avila police center and, later, they will test in Valencia and Malaga, but without travelers inside.

The drone is equipped with a radioelectric sensor with centimeter sensitivity, which allows it to land very softly, as well as proximity sensors that prevent the doors from opening until the engines are completely stopped as a safety measure .

The EH216 is now in Spain for the Expodrónica presentation that will be held at IFEMA (Madrid) within the framework of the World ATM Congress from October 26 to 28. It will be the most important event in Europe in terms of air mobility.
