The European Union has introduced the “Garden of Europe” initiative, designed to enhance the market presence and raise consumer awareness of EU agri-food products both within Europe and globally.
This initiative, running until 2027, underscores the EU’s commitment to ensuring food safety and product authenticity, providing consumers with top-quality goods that meet the highest international standards.
The campaign focuses specifically on promoting European kiwis from Greece and apples from Poland to markets in countries like Indonesia, India, and others, with the aim of increasing exports and highlighting the superior quality, safety, and nutritional value of these fruits.
The EU is recognised for its high production standards, particularly in the agri-food sector, with stringent safety and quality controls in place for products such as apples and kiwis.
These fruits are certified under various quality assurance schemes, ensuring food safety, environmental responsibility, and worker well-being. The certifications ensure that strict standards are followed throughout the production process.
Traceability systems are utilised to track the journey of apples and kiwis from farm to table, providing full transparency and accountability across the supply chain.
Regular inspections and audits by independent agencies ensure that all safety and quality measures are upheld, covering the entire process from cultivation to packaging and distribution.
The EU’s strict standards guarantee that the apples and kiwis are both safe to consume and authentic in origin.
The Agricultural Cooperative of Neapoli Agrinio and the Association of Polish Fruit and Vegetables Distributors are among the main beneficiaries of the ‘Garden of Europe’ initiative.
