“The recovery in Mexico is based on the recovery of the United States, a country that returned to the purchasing power it had before the coronavirus pandemic and brands are giving more incentives which greatly benefits Mexican exports,” explained Óscar Albín , president of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA).

Fausto Cuevas, general director of the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA) that affiliates 22 companies in the automotive sector, highlighted that in the American Union 15 percent of the cars sold are assembled in Mexico, being the main foreign supplier of cars for that nation.

“The North American region is the main destination for cars made in Mexico with 86 percent of the total (…) of this amount, the United States is the main destination for the area, followed by Canada. Our vehicles are sent to more than 100 countries, but the importance is concentrated in this market ”, he commented at the conference.

This was reflected in a higher production of cars in Mexico, since 312 thousand 184 vehicles were assembled in November of this year, 1.4 percent higher than that registered in the same month last year, when 307 thousand 756 units were assembled in the same month. of 2019.

In addition, it is the first increase that reports an eleventh month since 2017, although it is a lower annual percentage change than that of last October, where it increased 8.8 percent.

By brand, BMW was the firm that increased its car production the most in the country in November, with an increase of 42.9 percent compared to the same month last year, followed by Mercedes Benz with 42.6 percent and Ford with 31.8 percent. hundred.

While, in exports, it was Ford that increased its shipments abroad the most, with an increase of 36.9 percent in November, followed by Audi with 26.4 percent and the German Mercedes Benz with 23.2 percent.

In accumulated figures between January and November 2020, 2 million 785 thousand 927 vehicles were produced in Mexico, a figure 22.5 percent lower than that reported in the same period of last year when 3 million 596 thousand 345 vehicles were assembled in 2019.

While, 2 million 406 thousand 725 units were exported, 23.6 percent below what was registered in the first eleven months of 2019. Óscar Albín assured that one of the risks that could limit the recovery of the Mexican automotive industry is that the change of government in the United States generates uncertainty in the economy of that country.

“If there is a change in the government in a harsh way, that could generate uncertainty in the markets about the economy of that country, we must expect it to happen in the following days,” said the president of INA.
